Black and White Angel Food Cake- Recipe By Ina Garten I want to start the New Year with something sweet and what better than this black and white angel food cake. Made with egg whites and grated chocolate and topped with a rich chocolate ganache, it sure is a crowd pleaser. It’s so light and airy, the perfect dessert if you are making a heavy dinner. I had my close friend visit me from New York last week. I went all out with the dinner menu. I made minced chicken patties and turkey kebabs, home style chicken curry served with white basmati rice, Hyderabadi dal, dahi wadas, french beans vegetable and this cake for dessert. The perfect ending to a . . . CLICK TO READ MORE

Tea Bag Cookies

Shortbread Cookies- Recipe by Ina Garten (makes 24 cookies) Baking and decorating shaped cookies is my latest obsession. The tea-bag cookies featured here were inspired by a picture I came across on Pinterest. I was surprised at how easy it was to prepare them! After making the cookie dough, roll out 1/4 inch thick and cut out using a tea bag as a guide. With the help of a skewer make a tiny hole at the top of the cookie so that once its baked and cooled, you can tie a string through it. Chill for 10 minutes in the refrigerator and bake. Shortbread cookies when allowed to chill before baking, get a nice sharp edge . Cool and dip . . . CLICK TO READ MORE

Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Chocolate Chunk Cookies- Recipe by Ina Garten, Makes 36 cookies Few food indulgences can match the warmth and comfort of eating a freshly baked cookie! I surprised my daughter with a special after-school treat with a fresh batch of Chocolate Chunk Cookies (with white, melted chocolate drizzled on top!). These cookies are a hit with kids of all ages! Crisp on the outside, warm and chewy on the inside thanks to gooey chunks of chocolate make these the best cookies I’ve ever tasted (so far!). And now, in accordance with specific instructions from my 3-year old niece (!), I am freezing half the cookie batter in advance of my upcoming visit to New York City in the Spring. Ingredients: . . . Strawberry Tart

Strawberry Tart – Recipe by Ina Garten. The great thing about Strawberry Tart is that most of it can be prepared well ahead of time! I made the pastry cream well in advance of our planned get together with friends and refrigerated and baked the tart just the day before. On the day of the party, I assembled and glazed the fruit. I adapted this recipe from Ina’s book which taught me how to make 9-inch tart shell and fill it with pastry cream. She has these in individual tart shells which look really beautiful. I was surprised at how easy it really was to make. I love Ina! I also love the flaky crust and rich pastry cream . . . CLICK TO READ MORE

Vanilla Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

DSC_7386

Vanilla Cupcakes- recipe by Ina Garten I baked these cupcakes for my a dear friend’s baby shower which I hosted last year. I decided on an animal theme and kept it a neutral color, yellow since they were not aware of the baby’s sex. Like all Ina Garten’s recipes, this one turned out to be a big hit. The cupcakes are incredibly moist, light and fluffy. The only thing I would not do next time is fill the cupcake tins all the way up, it just tends to spill, making a very large cupcake. Other than that, it’s the best vanilla cupcake I have eaten! I added a little yellow color to the cream cheese icing to make it more . . . CLICK TO READ MORE

Old Fashioned Banana Cake

DSC_6777

Old- fashioned banana cake -Recipe by Ina GartenWhen I first read this recipe from Ina’s new book ‘How easy is that?’ I was reluctant to make it because I thought it’s so boring, another banana cake recipe. I was so wrong. Should have known better, it’s an Ina Garten recipe. This old fashioned favorite gets a new twist from the orange zest, really bringing out the flavor of the bananas. This is a soft, moist cake which is bursting with bananas, yet not overly sweet. The cake stays well for 2 to 3 days at room temperature. This cake freezes well too for the unexpected guests. Make sure the bananas have plenty of black spots on their skin and are . . . CLICK TO READ MORE
