Happy Birthday Meghna!

My daughter celebrated her 11th birthday recently by having her friends over for a sleepover. Yes! It was a unicorn party! Unicorn cake, chocolate covered Oreos, cake pops, and meringues were some of the desserts. The kids painted their own unicorns and also played a few fun games like pin the horn on the unicorn. I really had a lot of fun planning this party! A two tier unicorn cake. Vanilla and chocolate cake with my favorite buttercream- Swiss Meringue Buttercream! Loved these plates from my local Target store! Their beautiful paintings! The kids enjoyed pinning the horn on the unicorn!Their gift bags. Each girl got a chocolate covered Oreo, water bottle, unicorn hair ties, unicorn candy bead sticks and . . . CLICK TO READ MORE

Bridal Shower – Pink and Gold

IMG_9489

I recently had the pleasure of working on a dessert table for a bridal shower. I made cookies, cake pops, pretzels dipped in chocolate, chocolate cupcakes filled with toasted marshmallows and a malt chocolate frosting, red velvet cupcakes and mini desserts like toasted panna cottas with a rich, dark chocolate sauce and chocolate pots de creme. I had a lot of fun making these cookies and desserts. The bride’s mother had set up and decorated the place so beautifully. Sharing some pictures from the event! A big thank you to Icings by Ang who allowed me to use her tiara design. I absolutely love her work. My spin on it was that I topped the crown with a decorative . . . CLICK TO READ MORE

Valentine Cookies

Valentine Cookies I would like to wish all my readers a very Happy Valentine’s Day. I have been so excited to make Valentine cookies, I bought tons of stickers, stamps, decorative wrapping paper as sources of inspiration but ended up making these simple marbled hearts. I simply fell in love with the vibrant contrast of colors. They are super simple to make, hence not at all time consuming and yet have this sweet “Wow” factor. For a detailed tutorial visit sweetambs. Every year on Valentine’s day, the PTA at my daughter’s school organizes coffee and desserts for the teachers. It’s a whole day event. This year, we are also doing a raffle. There are lots of fun prizes and one . . . CLICK TO READ MORE

Old Fashioned Banana Cake

DSC_6777

Old- fashioned banana cake -Recipe by Ina GartenWhen I first read this recipe from Ina’s new book ‘How easy is that?’ I was reluctant to make it because I thought it’s so boring, another banana cake recipe. I was so wrong. Should have known better, it’s an Ina Garten recipe. This old fashioned favorite gets a new twist from the orange zest, really bringing out the flavor of the bananas. This is a soft, moist cake which is bursting with bananas, yet not overly sweet. The cake stays well for 2 to 3 days at room temperature. This cake freezes well too for the unexpected guests. Make sure the bananas have plenty of black spots on their skin and are . . . CLICK TO READ MORE

Mixed Berry Cheesecake

Mixed Berry Cheesecake

Mixed Berry Cheesecake-Ina Garten Recipe. Serves 12 to 15. Few desserts impress as completely as this one does. It has everything – dazzling colors, loads of flavors blended perfectly together and soft, creamy cheesecake texture! I first baked Mixed Berry Cheesecake for a close friend’s fortieth birthday (to help him forget perhaps!). With fresh berries and just a hint of lemon zest for depth of flavor, a mixed berry cheesecake is real treat. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. [Quick side story: Initially, my friends had a difficult time believing that the cheesecake was home prepared. Fortunately for me, the bottom plate of the springform pan was still attached to it – so I was able . . . CLICK TO READ MORE

Peach and Blueberry Crumble

DSC_6159

Peach and Blueberry crumbles- serves 5 to 6 This wonderful recipe comes from Ina garten’s ‘Barefoot Contessa’ at home. My husband gifted me this book on this mother’s day. Though I have made this recipe many times before.. been borrowing the book from the library, it feels good to own it. This is one of the best fruit desserts I have had. What I love about this dessert is that it is light, refreshing and so YUM. Made with fresh, juicy peaches and sweet blueberries with a hint of lemon in there. Served warm with a dollop of vanilla ice cream, I am in HEAVEN. INGREDIENTS: For the fruit: 2 pounds firm, ripe peaches (6 to 8 peaches) 2 teaspoons grated . . . CLICK TO READ MORE

Red Velvet Cupcakes With Cream Cheese Icing

Red Velvet Cupcakes2

Red Velvet Cupcakes -recipe by Ina Garten. Makes 15 cupcakes These classic cupcakes have chocolate flavor and are even better with the cream cheese icing which is smooth, and sweet yet tangy. I love cream cheese frosting as it goes well with most of the cakes like banana cake, chocolate cake and the icing has no egg. It’s easy to make, and spreads beautifully too. It’s my daughter’s favorite icing, I add a little red color to it and turn it to pink when making a vanilla cupcake for her. Another great thing about this icing , it takes color so well. Baked these for a friend’s daughter who loves Red Velvet cupcakes. Everyone loved them though I would try . . . CLICK TO READ MORE
