This dish is a great example of a simple yet delicious cauliflower based- preparation. I never knew cauliflower could taste this good till I ate it this dish around 11 years ago. It is made with cauliflower that is cut finely cut almost to resemble kheema which is a mince. This dish is made every weekend for lunch at my place to go along with hubby’s favorite tangy yellow dal (lentil) and rice. Honestly, I can eat this just plain, bowlfuls of it to be honest. I hope you enjoy it!
- 1 medium sized cauliflower, cut finely
- 1 onion chopped fine
- 2 tomatoes chopped fine
- 2- 3 green chillies chopped fine
- 2 tablespoons of fresh cilantro, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh ginger
- 2 teaspoons coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1//4 teaspoon turmeric
- salt to taste
Heat oil in vessel. Add onions to it and lightly brown it. Now add the green chillies and ginger and fry for a minute.
Throw in the cauliflower and fry for 5 minutes. Then add the tomatoes, cilantro , garam masala, turmeric, coriander powder, salt and mix well.
Cover with a lid and keep on medium flame for 25 minutes till the cauliflower is cooked. Serve hot with lentil and rice. Enjoy!

Hi Asmita – just the other day I was saying how much I hated cauliflower, but it seems that ever since then people keep posting recipes to “change my mind”, haha… this one looks wonderful and even though I’m not a cauliflower fan, I think I’d actually enjoy this!
Nice preparation, curry looks superb..
Hi Asmita! This recipe looks great and I can see this being a great side dish to practically anything! A hearty soup, a meat dish, a bean dish, naan, and so on…
That keema style cauliflower looks really good. I have some leftover lentil from yesterday, can make this Gobi Keema as a side.

I’ve never seen cauliflower used in this method before, so very interesting to me. I’m a fan of cauliflower, but you’re right – it’s hard to find recipes that are really enjoyable because of the unique flavor…
I’ve never had this, and I don’t like cauliflower, but maybe minced and spiced I might enjoy it.
It looks so healthy and fragrant, I would love to try it!
I’ve never been a big fan of cauliflower, but I have to say I’ve never, ever seen it presented this way before. And I’m thinking it might be pretty tasty. I love finding things I never would have thought of and have never seen before.
This is a totally new way to cook cauliflower! You’ve put so many tasty ingredients in it! Very interesting and educational!
What a great way to prepare cauliflowers! Love it!
Once again your pictures make me want to try this. The fact that you love it enough to have it every week, a true testimonial. The only thing new to me is the garam masala powder. I will have to find that.
Hi Rachel,
You should be able to get the garam masala powder in any Indian grocery store. Hope you try it out.
I love cauliflower and it is so plentiful in our local grocery stores right now. My girls are getting tired of eating it with my homemade cheese sauce, so I think I’ll give this recipe a try. Thank you for sharing it (and your lovely pictures).
Hi Lisa,
Thank you so much. I hope you try it. Enjoy!
I’ve never tried gobi keema or actually thought of making this way. But I’m a big big fan of gobi so this will definitely be tried soon.
Hi Asmita – I cooked this dish with your Chicken Seyal last weekend for friends and it was a big hit! Each dish had a distinct flavor and I loved the onion-tomato gravy from the chicken! Thanks so much for the work you put in to your blog!

Amita! This is one of my favourites ever! My granny used to make it all the time! Would you believe I’ve been thinking of making it this last week or so, even bought a cauliflower for it 2 days ago! Hurray, I’ll not bother thinking and just follow your recipe!
Hi Lin,
Please do let me know how it turns out using my recipe. I hope you enjoy it!
